The RASC-AL Exploration Robo-Ops Competition is an exciting, one-of-a-kind, opportunity for teams to test the rovers they have built at the NASA Johnson Space Center's Rock Yard.

Team rovers are tasked with navigating the treacherous Rock Field, climbing in and out of Lunar Craters, finding their way across Sand Dunes, and charging Mars Hill. Their goal is to collect as many rocks as possible during a one hour period, each of different size, shape, color and point value, while effectively demonstrating their rovers versatility, dexterity, and capacity to carry the rocks back to the top of Mars Hill (i.e., Mount Kosmo).

To simulate real-life interplanetary rover situations, each rover will be tele-operated off-site at the team’s home campus where teammates will remotely control the rover.  Rover operation is completely dependent on information garnered via the onboard rover cameras.

The live stream feeds from the rover cameras and microphones can be viewed live during their one hour competition runs.
