The  CSE Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor bestowed upon notable UB CSE alumni. These individuals bring credit credit and acclaim to the university through their personal accomplishments, professional achievements, public recognition or community service. This award acknowledges alumni who have achieved professional excellence and made meaningful contributions to the department.

Number of Awards Installed Per Year

We install up to four (4) Distinguished Alumni Awards per year:

  • Up to two (2) Distinguished Young Alumni Awards per year, for alumni who graduated within the last 10 years. 
  • Up to two (2) Distinguished Senior Alumni Awards per year, for alumni who graduated over 10 years ago. 

Qualifications

The UB CSE Distinguished Alumni Award selection committee seeks candidates with:

  • Exceptional career achievements with significant influence in their field
  • Noteworthy contributions to enhance the department’s prominence
  • Outstanding service to the community, the profession, and UB CSE
  • A history of mentorship or advisory involvement with CSE faculty members

Application Requirements

Submit these materials to the CSE Alumni Awards Committee:

  1. A 200-word summary highlighting educational, service or technical contribution to the field, including:
    • Impact of these contributions
    • Verifiable evidence supporting the application
  2. An updated CV (up to three pages)
  3. One nominator’s letter from CSE faculty or DAB members (up to two pages)
  4. One reference letter (up to two pages)

Procedure and Timeline

  • Nomination Period: Every February 1 – March 31 through a UB CSE website.
  • Call for Nominations: Announcements are shared through the alumni .
  • Selection Process: A committee of three CSE faculty members and three Department Advisory Board (DAB) members will select awardees in April. 
  • Celebration: Award recipients will be announced in December an dinvited to give brief remakrs (in-person or online) at the department award celebration in mid-May during the end of the spring semester.
