Graduation Process
You did it! Congratulations on a job well done.
Here are the steps you need to take to make sure you are eligible for degree conferral.
It is recommended that you apply for graduation one semester before your expected graduation date. For example, if you plan to graduate in a spring term, please submit your application in the preceding fall term. Failure to apply for degree in a timely manner can delay degree conferral. If you are receiving a double degree (i.e. a BS and a BA) you should complete the Double Degree Checklist and apply for graduation in both majors.

All requirements on your AAR must be satisfied prior to degree conferral. Students cannot receive a degree if one or more requirements is not satisfied. This includes second major, minor, and certificate requirements. Your AAR must look like this in order for you to receive a degree:
Common reasons why a graduating student’s AAR is not satisfied:
- Transfer credit has not been received. Please send official transcripts to UB to avoid a delay in degree conferral. Electronic versions of your transcripts are strongly recommended.
- Courses are not counting on the AAR where they are supposed to count. Please submit a request to move the missing class to the appropriate requirement. Your request will be reviewed by an academic advisor.
- Incomplete Grades. All grades must be finalized before your conferral date. This includes Independent Study, Study Abroad, Incomplete and blank grades. Please complete remaining work in a timely manner or submit a grade retrieval request. Incomplete grades will change to the default grade on the conferral date if no prior action is taken.
- Missing requirements in your major(s) and/or minor(s). If you do not plan to complete all of the programs on your HUB record, you must submit a request to drop the secondary major(s) and or minor(s) prior to the start of your final term. Students who have applied for graduation can request a Senior Year Degree Audit review from an advisor in 410 Bonner Hall. If you are unsure of your degree requirements, or would like to confirm you are on track for graduation, you may submit a Degree Audit request.
This includes:
- Make sure your name and permanent address are up-to-date in your HUB Student Center (via MyUB) for diploma delivery. Your diploma will be mailed approximately six (6) to eight (8) weeks after the conferral of your degree.
- Pay outstanding bills. UB cannot send transcripts or diplomas until all remaining financial obligations have been settled.
