Tech Xplore covered UB research led by Zhanpeng Jin that could help protect intellectual property by tracking the origin of 3D-printed items.

Jin, an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, is developing the technology as a way to track the origin of 3D-printed items. “We wanted to find something internal,” Jin said. “What would be the inherent signatures printed by my own 3D printer instead of another 3D printer?”
