Yahoo! News quoted Kang Sun in a report about residents across multiple states who have noticed the scent of burning plastic in the air.
Sun previously explained to The New York Times that when biomass like branches, trees and leaves burn, they spew volatile organic compounds into the air. As those compounds linger in the air, they interact with ultraviolet radiation to create pollutants that smell like burning plastic.
