A story on WGRZ-TV reports UB, through a research grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, is developing a platform for municipalities to gather crowdsourcing social media posts to further predict traffic patterns, and interviews Qing He, assistant professor of civil, structural and environmental engineering.

He said he and other researchers have been gathering public social media posts since December 2013. “We’re collecting tweets from different places, not only Western New York,” he said. “We’re collecting tweets in New York City, D.C. area, Bay area. We’re collecting all the tweets.”
