STEM Success Summer Bridge Program

Our STEM Success summer bridge program provides targeted support to improve math readiness and belongingness for first-year engineering and computer science majors.

Program Benefits:

Students and advisors pose for a group photo outside.

The benefits of the summer bridge program include:

  • Free summer calculus preparation course led by SEAS faculty
  • Students receive $15/hour of synchronous participation and may be eligible for a free calculus textbook
  • Students are assigned to a SEAS Peer Mentor for the summer, fall, and spring of the first year
  • Academic Small Groups support for Calculus and Chemistry in the first year
  • Provides community connections to SEAS and other first-year students

Students must successfully complete the Math Readiness Assessment (MRA) with minimum scores of 70 on each section to take MTH 141, Calculus 1. The virtual Summer Bridge Course is designed to help students reinforce understanding of MRA topics and concepts and apply those to textbook-based problems. In addition to improving competence on selected problem sets, emphasis is placed on a problem-solving process that enables students to approach a wide range of problems. The format is a synchronous online course which incorporates a blend of interactive instruction, active problem solving, and reflective problem analysis. There are options to complete the material asynchronously as well.
