This unique department focuses on transdisciplinary research, training and community outreach at New York's flagship university—aiming to shape the next generation of visionaries who take tools from society to build AI systems.
AI’s impact on applied and industrial fields is well documented. However, AI and computational methods are affecting human services as well. UB researchers are exploring what role these tools play in one of the most crucial societal professions: social work.
There are problems that exist when reviewing any large datasets. A paper — co-authored by a University at Buffalo researcher and written 10 years ago — was recognized for its impact in helping to solve these problems.
Government Technology noted UB’s new Department of AI and Society in an article about universities that have announced undergraduate programs in AI in the last two years.
"This new department reflects a strong commitment to ensuring that AI technologies are used ethically and that their benefits are equitably distributed across society."
