Scott and Coleen Stevens Chair in Engineering Sustainability and associate professor John D. Atkinson is an associate editor with the Journal of Hazardous Materials.
“Journal of Hazardous Materials has long been an important publication for environmental engineers and scientists.” Atkinson says. “I am excited to help sculpt our broader field by contributing to a journal that has been such an important vehicle for sharing my own work.”
Atkinson’s research specializes in sustainability, waste management, porous materials and other related areas. In addition to his appointment as Scott and Coleen Stevens Chair in Engineering Sustainability, Atkinson has been recognized as a TEDx Speaker, and as an Early Career Teacher of the Year, Experiential Learning Faculty Fellow, and Life Raft Debate Winner at the University or School of Engineering and Applied Sciences levels.
“Recent growth in the Journal’s rank and reputation is a quantifiable testament to its dedicated editorial team, which I’m now honored to join,” Atkinson says. “I look forward to collaborating with authors, reviewers and editors that are pushing the boundaries of their research and sharing their results efficiently and effectively.”
The Journal of Hazardous Materials has an impact factor over 10 and is an important international forum for reporting world class research in environmental science and engineering. In his new role, Atkinson will make publication recommendations based on his own expertise and feedback from external reviewers.
