Atri Rudra to chair UB's new Department of AI and Society

Atri Rudra.

Rudra's leadership will usher in our new department, which is advancing research and education in artificial intelligence. 

Rudra, the Katherine Johnson Chair in Artificial Intelligence, is an award-winning teacher and researcher studying the theoretical underpinnings of computing. He is a leader in ethics education, and has helped shape ethical practices throughout the field. 

The Department of AI and Society focuses on research, teaching, and community outreach and engagement that examine AI and its impact on society. The department is recruiting new faculty members to add to more than 200 researchers and faculty already investigating AI at UB. 

UB's new Department of AI and Society compliments existing academic departments and units, and provides students with a foundational understanding of how AI works, and how it impacts research, education, government, industry and other fields.
