UB’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences gave its highest honor, the Dean’s Award for Achievement, to Ann Wegrzyn (BS IE 1985; MBA 1990) for her substantial contribution to the practice of engineering and the applied sciences and for her exceptional professional career.
After Wegrzyn received her undergraduate degree in industrial engineering in 1985, she began a career at National Fuel Gas Company, a locally headquartered energy company, and for thirty years since, has worked her way up through various roles that have allowed her to use and develop a wide range of technical and leadership skills. Wegrzyn also received her MBA at UB as a part-time student while working at National Fuel in 1990.
Currently, Wegrzyn serves as National Fuel’s Chief Information Officer, a crucial, fast-paced role, where she is responsible for all technology and cybersecurity across the subsidiaries of the company.
Wegrzyn is an active volunteer in the UB community, serving as a member of both the Industrial and Systems Engineering Departmental Advisory Board and the UB Alumni Board of Directors. She is also a Career Connector Mentor for the Office of Alumni Engagement, and a long-time member of the Delta Society.
Upon accepting the award at this year’s commencement ceremony, Wegrzyn said, “UB connections, both through the alumni network and through volunteer opportunities, have played a role in my career success, as well as personally enriching my life with new people and ideas - that’s why giving back and being involved is so important to me.”
Wegrzyn is a great example to the SEAS community that working hard and being a giving person contribute equally to attaining personal and career success.
