A story on WGRZ-TV reports on research by Wenyao Xu, assistant professor of computer science and engineering, that uses cancelable biometric passwords to unlock smartphones and other devices.

“The major advantage for brain password versus traditional face and fingerprint is there are so many data breaches, with our face, fingerprints and those kind of traditional biometrics under attack every day. Once those biometrics are compromised, you lose them forever,” he said, pointing out that you can’t grow a new fingerprint or iris.
