Patch.com quoted Filippo Malandra, assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, in its coverage of a $300,000 federal grant to expand high-speed internet access in Buffalo's Fruit Belt neighborhood.
UB will lead the grant team, which includes numerous community partners, in a project to build a network capable of providing internet service at no cost to 150 households. “We are excited to take part in this important effort to reduce the digital divide in underserved communities,” says Malandra. “We are grateful to U.S. Ignite, the National Science Foundation and Schmidt Futures for supporting our proposal.”
