MAE to recognize outstanding undergraduate students

Five aerospace engineering undergraduate students have been selected by the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) to receive awards for outstanding achievements during the 2018-2019 academic year. Recipients include the following students:

Ian Desjardin, Class of 2020, will receive the Chair’s Award, which honors exceptional students in the department who demonstrate sustained excellence across a number of areas including academic, leadership, service, and research.

Chris Gnam, Class of 2019, will receive the Undergraduate Researcher Award, which honors students for their scholarly contributions as an undergraduate researcher in MAE.

Maura Sutherland, Class of 2019, will receive the Young Professional Award, which honors students who have excelled in their early professional experiences.

Jessica Evans, Class of 2019, will receive the Distinguished Leadership Award, which honors students who demonstrate significant leadership and influence on their peers toward achieving organizational goals.

Leah Nolan, Class of 2020, will receive the Humanitarian Award, which honors students who have excelled in their community outreach, service, and engagement.

Selections for the awards were made by the Student Excellence Committee, which included four MAE faculty members and one MAE staff member.

The award ceremony will be held on May 7, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. in the Student Union’s Landmark Room (210) on UB North Campus. All MAE faculty, staff and students are invited to join the recipients at the awards ceremony and a reception following the presentation of awards.
