The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences currently offers minors in various subjects. These provide a nice means to complement a major degree program.
UB students in academic good standing may be considered for admission to our minor programs.
Admission to the computer science minor requires:
- Matriculated student with academic good standing at the University at Buffalo.
- Submission of the SEAS Major/Minor Change Application.
- Completion of three required core courses with grades of C– or better and a combined core course grade point average of at least 2.5. The three required core courses are:
- Introduction to Computer Science Majors 1 (CSE 115)
- Introduction to Computer Science Majors 2 (CSE 116)
- Discrete Structures (CSE 191 or MTH 191)
Note: students who have taken MTH 311 can use that as a substitute for CSE 191 / MTH 191.
- Minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.8.
See the Undergraduate Degree & Course Catalog for information regarding the requirements for the computer science minor.
Admission to the electrical engineering minor requires:
- One of the following:
- Academic good standing within an approved major within the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
- Satisfaction of the core course requirement for admission to an engineering major. See our Admission to SEAS for Current UB Students documentation for more information.
- Submission of the SEAS Major/Minor Change Application.
- Completion of five required core courses with a combined core course grade point average of at least 2.5. The required core courses are:
- Calculus 1 (MTH 141)
- Calculus 2 (MTH 142)
- General Physics 1 (PHY 107)
- General Physics 2 (PHY 108)
- General Physics 2 lab (PHY 158)
- Minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5.
See the Undergraduate Degree & Course Catalog for information regarding the requirements for the electrical engineering minor.
Admission to the manufacturing minor requires:
- One of the following:
- Academic good standing within an approved major within the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
- Satisfaction of the core course requirement for admission to an engineering major. See our Admission to SEAS for Current UB Students documentation for more information.
- Submission of the SEAS Major/Minor Change Application by November 15 for Spring admission and by March 15 for Fall admission. Students who apply after this deadline will be considered on a space-available basis.
- Completion of a total of 45 credit hours (at UB or elsewhere). Note that students may apply to the program while registered in courses that will bring them to 45 total credit hours.
- Minimum overall and UB cumulative GPAs of 2.5. Admission will be limited to 25 students per year, and therefore the GPAs of admitted students may be higher. When demand exceeds capacity, the overall academic history of applicants will be considered in admission decisions.
See the Undergraduate Degree & Course Catalog for information regarding the requirements for the manufacturing minor.
Admission to the robotics minor requires:

Admission to one of these minors requires:
- Academic good standing within an approved major at the University at Buffalo.
Note: Students who left the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in poor academic standing are not eligible to apply for this minor until they have completed 30 credits in a new (non-SEAS) major. - Submission of the SEAS Major/Minor Change Application by November 15 for Spring admission and by March 15 for Fall admission. Students who apply after this deadline will be considered on a space-available basis.

Admission to the certificate requires:
- Completion of the two prerequisites:
- CSE 115 Introduction to Computer Science I
- CSE 116 Introduction to Computer Science II
- Prerequisite course GPA: 2.5
- Submission of the SEAS Major/Minor Change Application
