Fifteen graduate students from SEAS gathered on March 8 to compete in the first Lightning Talk Competition. Contestants presented a two-minute oral presentation and a singular slide aimed toward communicating their research effectively.

The project, supported by Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, will tap UB’s expertise in materials science, advanced manufacturing, AI and more.

The balloon, to be launched 80,000 feet into the air, will provide footage from an attached 360-degree GoPro camera.

WiSE has operated since 2014 with the continued goal of improving the recruitment, retention and success of women in STEM fields. 

The conductive ink startup was spun out from university’s Business and Entrepreneur Partnerships office.
