Tips and Timelines for Hiring Interns

Student intern.

Hiring for summer internships for School of Engineering and Applied Sciences students begins as early as September. Many employers post their openings, attend the UB Career Design Center's fall Tech/STEM UP Career Fair, and interview candidates on campus in the weeks following the fair.

When seeking summer interns, we suggest the following guidelines and schedule to maximize results.

January

Post internship opportunities with the UB Career Design Center (First day of classes)

  • Post your internship with the UB Career Design Center using the Bullseye online recruitment platform. (Your HR department may already have an account.)

February

Deadline for students to apply

  • You will have a choice of how you wish students to apply. The system can collect resumes/documents for you to view at your convenience. Alternatively, applicants can be directed to your website or to apply via email. You will review applicants and contact them directly to arrange an interview.

March

Identify candidates to interview and start interviews. You might also consider participating in the CareerFest All Majors Job & Internship Fair to identify additional candidates.

  • You may choose to use the On-Campus Interviewing service as a way to interview multiple candidates efficiently. Complete the Request On-Campus Interviewing online form in Bullseye. You will be asked to include the internship posting information. Simply go to the UB Career Design Center's Bullseye powered by Handshake online career office. (Your HR department may already have an account). Once you log in to Bullseye, go to the Request On-Campus Interviewing link on the right sidebar of the main Bullseye page and then click on the Request a Schedule button to complete. You will be contacted by the Career Design Center to confirm the date and have any questions answered.

April
