Introduction to Robot Safety: What You Need to Know About Robotics and Safety Standards

November 19 | 4:00 P.M. | Zoom Seminar

Assistant Professor, Industrial and Systems Engineering, University of Florida

Abstract

Demand for robotic automation is at an all-time high and robot safety is paramount to all successful robotics applications. As industrial robots continue to become more advanced, more capable, and more popular on the international stage, the need for comprehensive robot safety standards increases exponentially. Robots can be dangerous to operate - especially when safety protocols aren't followed. While standards for operation are important, safety standards have a far larger impact than the safe operation of industrial robots. In his talk, Dr. Boyi Hu will examine key issues in robot safety and provides an in-depth overview of current industry standards. Both traditional industrial robots (i.e. manipulators) and emerging mobile robots and domestic service robots will be discussed.
