Together, the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering can offer a complete and computer engineering program based on the foundational disciplines in computer science and electrical engineering. 

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department prepares students for careers in computer engineering with a deep understanding of hardware, hardware development, electronic devices and circuits, and electronic instrumentation. The department also offers more courses on microelectronics and semiconductor technologies, a critical area as devices are expected to utilize AI and smart technologies while maintaining their efficiency. 

The Computer Science and Engineering Department provides students with an understanding of programming, operating and embedded systems, as well as machine learning, software design and computer security. 

Computer Engineering Research in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department

Researchers in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering are investigating significant concepts like computing and hardware architectures, emerging devices and quantum technologies, networking an information theory, Internet of Things (IoT), communications and signal processing.
 
Faculty members are leading nearly $12M worth of projects in computer engineering areas. These projects include developing new techniques for microelectronic-circuit evaluation, research and education in programmable computing fabric networks and designing new transistors based on 2D semiconductors and magnetoelectric materials.
