Thomas.net reported on the method developed by Zhangpeng Jin, associate professor of computer science and engineering, to determine a 3D printer's fingerprint, which could not only help identify machines used to make unlawful weapons but also help protect intellectual property.
The research involves using the 3D printer's thermodynamic properties to create a ThermoTag, which is as unique as a human fingerprint.
Associate professors Wenyao Xu, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Chi Zhou, Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, are part of the research team.
