Do you ever look at a process or system and think, “Here’s how I’d make it better if I was in charge.” If so, then welcome to industrial engineering—the perfect major for people who want to use science and math to improve efficiency and productivity.
A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Industrial Engineering from UB opens the door to fascinating careers in industries as diverse as airline operations, automotive manufacturing, health care and financial services.
Full program requirements for the BS in Industrial Engineering can be found in the UB Degree and Course Catalog. Our undergraduates take courses in production planning, engineering economics, computer integrated manufacturing, facilities design, human factors and ergonomics, simulation, operations research, statistics and quality control. Students also complete a supervised industry capstone project as a required part of the BS curriculum.
Find out how you might flow through the ISE program using our interactive flowsheet, which shows potential course sequences and pre-requisites.
Undergraduate students in industrial engineering may choose to focus their studies by selecting technical electives in one of the following four areas:
Manufacturing Engineer, Production Superintendent, Principal Optimization Engineer and Production Supervisor, Continuous Improvement Lead
Quality Assurance Engineer, Test Engineer, Production Control Engineer, Quality Engineer, Process Improvement Engineer
Sports Data Operator, Data Analyst, Consultant, Operations Analyst, Senior Analyst
Human Factors Engineer, Research Associate, Usability Engineer
In addition to the mathematics, science, and engineering science courses required by the department, students must comply with university and School of Engineering and Applied Sciences requirements regarding General Education. For more information, visit the Academic Advisement section on the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences website.
Our students can also enhance their education and attractiveness to employers through one of our Minors, Six Sigma Certification, or our five-year BS/MBA program.
