The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences recognizes faculty and staff excellence through an awards program. Recipients are nominated by fellow faculty/staff and vetted by the SEAS Faculty Awards Committee or the SEAS Staff Awards Committee.
This award is presented to teaching faculty member(s) whose recent teaching performance, initiatives, publications and/or presentations demonstrate outstanding contributions to education within the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Eligible awardees must be full-time members of one of the School's departments/units and they must have an in-house title of Teaching Assistant Professor, Teaching Associate Professor, or Teaching Professor. The award recognizes outstanding performance during the past 5 years. A recipient may receive the award multiple times, but not more than once in 5 years. A maximum of two awards will be made each year.
Each Chair may nominate up to three persons from their department for this award. A cover letter from the Chair (maximum 1 page) and recent CV (maximum 3 pages) must accompany the nomination, together with a citation paragraph which states succinctly why the individual being nominated is worthy of the award. Applications shall be considered by the SEAS Awards Committee. The nominee's name (with nomination materials) will be forwarded to the Dean for final approval.
This award is designed to recognize a teaching faculty member with a documented record of teaching excellence over the previous 5 years. Descriptions of new teaching methods or initiatives and/or publications and presentations related to teaching may also be considered positive evidence of excellence.
This award is presented to early career faculty member(s) whose recent research at UB demonstrates relevance and importance to the overall mission of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Eligible awardees must be full-time members of one of the School's departments/units and untenured at the Assistant Professor level. Additionally, they must have been at UB for a 3-year period. A faculty member may receive the Early Career Researcher Award only once. A maximum of two awards will be made each year. Individuals who have received the UB Exceptional Scholar Award for Young Investigator are not eligible for this award.

The award recognizes outstanding performance during the past 5 years. A recipient may receive the award multiple times, but not more than once in 5 years. A maximum of two awards will be made each year. Individuals who have received the UB Exceptional Scholar Award for Sustained Achievement, or the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities are not eligible for this award. UB Distinguished Award recipients and those holding the SUNY Distinguished Professor rank are also not eligible for this award.

This award recognizes an outstanding senior researcher in the school whose recent work (last 5 years) has made significant contributions to their field while at UB. The researcher’s scholarship may have garnered public and/or professional accolades beyond the norm for other bodies of work in his or her research area or may reflect a sustained record of external grant funding at the national or international level.

However, nominators must detail how nominees have exceeded expectations in relation to the award criteria as well as how they have gone over and above their professional responsibility to advance JEDI in SEAS.
This award is presented to faculty for their effective mentoring commitments to other faculty. It seeks to celebrate both what the mentor does and how they do it and can be awarded to mentors of all kinds (officially assigned mentors, peer mentors, mentoring networks, and informal or unofficial mentoring). As such, the nomination can be for a single individual or a group of mentors working collectively to offer support.
A maximum of two awards will be made each year.
Each chair may nominate up to three persons from their department for this award. Nominations should include a cover letter from the chair and a 3-page CV. Notes of support from mentees are optional. The letter of nomination should include a description of the way the mentor’s work results in a more inclusive or equitable work environment for other faculty or staff.

It recognizes and celebrates excellence and innovation in faculty mentoring and advising that goes above and beyond to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for undergraduate students in SEAS. The award highlights efforts that significantly contribute to student progress and success through activities that include but are not limited to:
Postdoctoral associates are eligible if they have been at UB for at least six months. Individuals who previously received the award within the past five years or the UB President Emeritus and Mrs. Meyerson Award for Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching and Mentoring are not eligible to apply.
Nominations for this award may be solicitated from students who were advised or taught by the proposed nominee, as well as faculty or administration familiar with their mentoring approaches.
