Biography

Professor Lund studies catalysis and reaction engineering associated with the production of fuels and environmentally favorable chemical processing. His most recent activities have been related to the conversion of cellulosic biomass into chemicals and fuel precursors. In the classroom, Professor Lund is known for his long-term use of active learning and a so-called “flipped classroom.” He is currently studying the use of “homework wrappers” to aid students’ metacognitive development.

Dr. Lund joined the faculty of UB CBE in the Fall of 1986 after earning his PhD from the University of Wisconsin in 1981 and working for five years at the Exxon Corporate Research Laboratories. In the past, he has served as Associate Dean for Research and Department Chair. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
