The periodical Chemical Engineering Education computed the NRC (National Research Council) rankings on a per-faculty-member and put UB CBE as 13th in the U.S. Studies conducted by the University of Pittsburgh, ranked us among the top 10 in the world based on research publications per faculty and their impact on the field as manifested by the quality of the scientific journals in which the papers were published and the number of citations each paper received. The NRC consistently ranks us among the top 30 of the 161 departments of chemical engineering in the U.S.

We offer several Master’s programs and a Doctoral (PhD) program designed to train successful leaders and sound practitioners of chemical and biological engineering. Our students build expertise in various areas of chemical engineering by applying creative and critical thinking in the context of inquiry-based curricula. Completion of these programs prepares graduates for careers in research and industrial practice. Students with strong quantitative skills are best positioned for success in our programs. Throughout their study, our students will have frequent opportunities to improve their oral and written communication skills and enrich their core technical competency while also building other skills that are highly valued in the workplace, including teamwork, lifelong learning, cultural awareness and civic engagement.
