Robert Dell, a professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, has been elected to the Military Operations and Research Society (MORS) Board of Directors. MORS is an organization that aims to enhance the quality of analysis that informs national and homeland security decisions.
“One of my goals with moving to Buffalo was to become more involved in the leadership of our professional societies,” said Dell, who joined the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in 2022 from the Naval Postgraduate School, where he served on the faculty of the Operations Research Department.
His research interests include optimization, production scheduling, supply chain design, and professional sports analytics. He has published more than 40 papers in academic journals.
Dell has served in leadership positions while at the Naval Postgraduate School, including as acting provost and academic dean, and dean of the Naval Postgraduate School Graduate School of Operational and Information Sciences.
He received the Brazilian Order of Naval Merit in 2021, the MORS Vance R. Wanner Memorial Award in 2020, the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences Koopman Prize in 2014, and the Department of the Army Dr. Wilbur B. Payne Memorial Award for Excellence in Analysis in 2011.
Dell received his PhD in industrial engineering from the University at Buffalo.
