An article on Futurity reports on a UB study that found that people are more likely to start a weight-loss program if a friend was successful, than seeing a less successful, charismatic person persuade them to sign up.

The study was authored by Mahboobeh Ghesmaty Sangachin, Mohammadreza Samadi and Lora A. Cavuoto, all from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. It appeared in the Journal of Healthcare Engineering.
