Travel Funds for Visiting Program Managers at Funding Agencies

Faculty members interested in traveling to meet with program managers at federal funding agencies (e.g., NSF, NIH, DOD, DOE) are invited to apply for travel funds, with a budget of up to $600 available to help cover the costs of the trip. Funding for this program is contingent on availability, and priority will be given to faculty who lack other funding sources for such trips.

Faculty must obtain travel funding approval before travel occurs to be eligible for program benefits. Additionally, faculty must comply with all UB business travel regulations, including securing pre-approval from their supervisor for any overnight trips.

All faculty are strongly encouraged to use this opportunity to initiate face-to-face conversations with program managers, thereby enhancing their chances of securing funding. The Office of Research Advancement (ORA), with its experienced staff, is available to assist faculty in preparing for these visits.

Faculty recipients of the travel funds will be expected to:

  • Provide a summary of the agency visit and the proposal submission plan to the SEAS Associate Dean for Research before submitting their travel expense report.
  • Notify the SEAS Associate Dean for Research when their proposal is submitted.
  • Notify the SEAS Associate Dean for Research when they hear whether their proposal is funded or not.
