With growing populations and increasing threats from extreme weather, there is a critical need to rehabilitate and reinvent the built environment in response to these challenges. The construction engineering and management program provides the technical and management skills to prepare students for a variety of careers that promote safe, sustainable, practical, and innovative solutions in the constantly evolving construction environment.
The Civil Engineering MS construction engineering and management focus area prepares students for careers in the construction industry, with training in engineering concepts and tools, in conjunction with management principles. Students first learn the core principles of construction engineering and management, then develop capabilities in construction safety, scheduling, cost estimation, construction techniques, and sustainable practices, with attention to legal and ethical considerations.
Students can tailor their program of study to include civil engineering electives in structural, geotechnical, environmental, or transportation engineering.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 9% increase in construction engineering and management over the next decade, much faster compared to other occupations.
Recent civil engineering graduates and professionals working in the construction engineering and management industry can earn an MS and accelerate their careers.
The 30-credit MS program with a focus on construction engineering and management consists of 2 required courses, 7-8 electives, and either a 3-credit project or a comprehensive exam (with a 3-credit elective, including an internship).
