Alumni Awards and Honors

Rohitesh Gupta was recently published in Molecular Omics for research that was done at UB. The piece is titled "Robustness in glycosylation systems: Effect of modified monosaccharides, acceptor decoys and azido sugars on cellular nucleotide-sugar levels and the pattern of N-linked glycosylation."
Manoj K. Choudhary, MS '76, is no stranger to the spotlight. He has many transformative achievements, made countless keynote addresses, and holds prestigious honors recognized globally. 
Carla Ng has been awarded a $500k NSF CAREER Award. She graduated from the University at Buffalo, CBE with a BS in 2001 and MS in 2003, before going to Northwestern University and receiving a PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering, 2008. 

Ken-Tye Yong, PhD 2006, was elected as a Fellow Member of The Optical Society (OSA) at the Society’s recent Board of Directors meeting.


Inspired by the engineering term meaning “the difference,” this award is given annually to donors who have made a significant difference for the school, our students, and our culture through their generous philanthropy.

Junyi Liu received his master degree from the University at Buffalo in Chemical Engineering 2016 and his PhD in 2019. His thesis focused on solubility selective membranes for carbon capture.

The award was established by the China Scholarship Council in 2003, and it is considered to be the highest award given by the Chinese government to the graduate student study aboard.


Professor Yumiao Zhang is the 2018 recipient of UB’s Outstanding Dissertation Award with the dissertation titled "Low-temperature block copolymer processing for biomedical applications."


Associate Professor Ken Tye Yong of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Nanyang Technological University is this year’s recipient of the Rosenhain Medal and Prize of the Council of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3).


Dr. Chen, who studied with CBE Associate Professor Chong Cheng, has been promoted to associate professor at the Fiber and Composite Materials department of Feng Chia University in Taiwan.


Katerina Tsoutsoura, a former member of the Paschalis Alexandridis research group, has been promoted as a team leader role in formulation development at Syngenta Crop Protection AG, Switzerland headquarters.


Kaustubh Rane is currently an assistant professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN)


Zhiyong Gu, professor at the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMass Lowell) received an award for outstanding mentoring of students.


Stella Alimperti, a former member of the Stelios Andreadis research group, has been appointed as principal investigator at National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Washington, D.C.


Dr. Jayant K. Singh, a former member of the David Kofke group, has been appointed as Chaired Professor and Head of the Center for Development of Technical Education at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur).


Christopher Wirth has been awarded the NSF CAREER award. Wirth graduated from the University at Buffalo with a bachelor degree in chemical and biological engineering in 2007.
