Anna-Barbara Hachmann is a Sr Manager, R&D, at Thermo Fisher Scientific in Grand Island, NY. Anna has over 15 years of experience in cell biology, virology, gene therapy and microbiology. Her team is developing cell culture media for vaccine and protein production, as well as gene therapy and cell therapy applications. She received a Pharmacy degree at the Friedrich-Schiller-University in Jena, Germany and Cambridge University, UK. During her PhD in Microbiology at Cornell University she investigated transcriptional regulation in response to cell envelope stress and antibiotic resistance mechanisms. As part of her postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School and the Antimicrobial Discovery Center at Northeastern University, she employed high-throughput screening to identify species-specific antibiotics as part of the NIH Human Microbiome Project. Anna has been involved in outreach activities developing college-level microbiology experiments with a Hutchinson Central Technical High School teacher to instruct students in an after school program, as industry advisor for the University at Buffalo Chapter Engineers without Borders and Advanced Mammalian Biomanufacturing Innovation Center (AMBIC) industry mentor.
