Biography

Dr. Junsong Yuan is currently Professor and Director of Visual Computing Lab at Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), State University of New York at Buffalo, USA.  Before that, he was an Associate Professor at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.  He obtained his Ph.D. from Northwestern University, M.Eng. from National University of Singapore and B.Eng from the Special Program for the Gifted Young of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), China.  His research interests include computer vision, pattern recognition, video analytics, gesture and action analysis, large-scale visual search and mining.  He received Best Paper Award from IEEE Trans. on Multimedia, Nanyang Assistant Professorship from NTU, and Outstanding EECS Ph.D. Thesis award from Northwestern University.  He is currently Senior Area Editor of Journal of Visual Communications and Image Representation (JVCI), Associate Editor of IEEE Trans. on Image Processing (T-IP) and IEEE Trans. on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (T-CSVT), and served as Guest Editor of International Journal of Computer Vision (IJCV).  He is Program Co-Chair of IEEE Conf. on Multimedia Expo (ICME'18) and Steering Committee Member of ICME (2018-2019).  He also served as Area Chair for CVPR, ICIP, ICPR, ACCV, ACM MM, WACV etc.  He is a Fellow of the International Association of Pattern Recognition (IAPR) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
