Why did you choose to study electrical engineering?

I have always been passionate about Electrical Engineering and Wireless communications, to be specific. 3G, 4G/LTE and now the road towards 5G, and how the technology helps us to communicate in a seamless way has always excited me, which is the reason I selected Electrical Engineering.

What do you like best about electrical engineering?

Electrical Engineering is one of those fields where-in it does not matter which field you want to work in, you need to know at least some fundamentals about all possible scenarios. For eg. An Electrical Engineer specializing in IOT domain has to have knowledge of Networking, Communications as well as fundamental DSP.  This field not only gives you a depth but also breadth of knowledge, which is very important from the industry point of view.

What makes UB Electrical Engineering special?

Three things :

1) The Professors: Hands down the best I ever had. The guidance they provide and the dedication they have is unbelievable.

2) The Coursework: A wide range of courses where in you can choose as per your liking, available for all specializations. They are both research and industry oriented, Especially the course on IOT.

3) Facilities: Ample labs, resources and equipment available for any kind of lab, project and research work.

A favorite memory of your experiences/classes/projects?

Memories of Spending time in building projects, Soldering, debugging and writing codes in Labs and being absolutely diligent at it has to be the first thing that comes to my mind. But my favorite memory has to be the IOT exhibition organized for the IOT course. A lot of people from various departments, students from other schools and their parents came to see how many different applications Internet of things can facilitate. There were a lot of projects with Live demo of applications like Smart Recycling Totes, Smart Water Purification Systems and Smart Fish tracking systems.  It gave us a lot of exposure and it was overall fun!

Tell us about your career:

I interned at ColdSpace LLC as an IOT Engineer during the Summer of 2017. Working at this Startup gave me good practical experience in the field of IOT/Firmware Development and helped bridge the gap between Academia and the Industry.

Currently, I work as a Wireless Protocols(4G/5G) Engineer at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. I work on bring up, analysis, debug and solutions of various cases involved in Lab or Field testing of Qualcomm's latest 4G/5G Modem.  Increasing Throughput for higher data rates, Reducing latency for faster connectivity and various Modem crash Scenarios are some of the things I work on. Absolutely what I always wanted to!

Anything else you would like to mention?

UB EE changed my life and has been a brilliant experience that taught me a lot of things. This is an exciting time for UB and especially the Electrical Engineering Department. With perseverance, smarts and hard work, any student can achieve their goals by making the most of their time at UB Electrical Engineering.
