Kui Ren and Terri Nusstein from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences have been named recipients of the 2018 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence.
Aidong Zhang, a SUNY Distinguished Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, is one of 54 computer scientists named a 2017 Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Zhang is being recognized for her contributions to bioinformatics and data mining.

UB senior Devashish Agarwal (CS BS Candidate '18) was the student nominee selected from the four SUNY University Centers to receive the Association of Council Members and College Trustees (ACT) of the State University of New York Excellence and Student Initiative Scholarship. Wenyao Xu created AutoDietary—software that tracks the unique sounds produced by food as people chew it. AutoDietary, placed near the throat by a necklace delivery system developed at China's Northeastern University, helps users measure their caloric intake.

Karthik Dantu owns the vision component of the RoboBee Initiative, led by the National Science Foundation and Harvard University. The "eyes" that Dr. Dantu is integrating are laser-powered sensors that enable the mechanical bees to orient themselves in space.
