Kevin Hulme, program manager in UB's Stephen Still Institute for Sustainable Transportation and Logistics (ISTL) wins the "Best Tutorial" award at international conference.
Kevin Hulme’s tutorial titled, “Behind the Screams: M&S Anatomy and Decomposition of a Contemporary Ride System Attraction,” won the Best Tutorial at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC). The focus of the conference was on different aspects of simulation, training, and education.
This award-winning tutorial examines critical simulation techniques.
“We examine the powerful cross-synergy that continues to exist between serious-minded training applications and simulator-based entertainment experiences,” says Hulme. “This notion continues to pervade diverse modeling and simulation applications across training, simulation, and education within academia, industry, and government alike.”
I/ITSEC provides a tutorial program that strives for outcomes in three focus areas: foundational topics reflecting important themes from the Paper Subcommittees (Training, Simulation, Education, Human Performance Analysis & Engineering, and Policy, Standards, Management & Acquisition); advanced topics to prepare for or maintain certification as a Certified Modeling and Simulation Professional (CMSP); and emerging concepts of particular interest to I/ITSEC attendees.
Hulme’s second tutorial titled, “Transportation Systems: A Survey of M&S [Modeling and Simulation] Applications in Mobility, Sustainability, and Logistics,” will also be expanded into a 4-hour Professional Development Workshop (PDW), which are typically offered on the final Friday of I/ITSEC each year. Hulme aspires to present this PDW next year at I/ITSEC 2024.
I/ITSEC is the largest modeling, simulation, and training event in the world, consisting of peer-reviewed paper presentations, tutorials, special events, professional workshops, a commercial exhibit hall, serious games competition and STEM events. Organized and sponsored by the National Training & Simulation Association (NTSA), I/ITSEC aims to promote international and interdisciplinary cooperation within the fields of modeling and simulation, training, education, analysis, and related disciplines. I/ITSEC also emphasizes themes related to defense and security. The conference was held in Orlando, Florida in December 2023.
