Two faculty members in the UB’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences earned NSF CAREER Awards to address the impact of harmful algal blooms on public health and the economy and to enhance multi-objective decision-making in LLMs and AI systems.

The funding will contribute to advancements in artificial intelligence, clean energy, health care, cybersecurity and more.

A UB research project was awarded a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to make ‘farming’ biofuel more efficient and affordable.

Polyculture farming mimics natural ecosystems and can increase crop diversity, enhance productivity and help protect against common pests. Engineers at the University at Buffalo are looking to employ similar techniques in biomass harvesting. 

Futurity features a study by Yinyin Ye  and Ian Bradley on wastewater surveillance and COVID hospitalizations. 

Bioenergy Insight reported that the U.S. Department of Energy has awarded $2 million to Ian Bradley for a project to monitor and process control strategies to mitigate the impact of bacterial pests on algae crops.

Highlights include making hydrogen fuel cell less expensive and keeping bridges open after earthquakes.
