Why did you choose UB?

I am a Buffalo native and knew I would be able to get a great education staying locally. UB’s strong engineering program provided a solid technical foundation for me to build upon.

As a student, what did you want to be "when you grew up?"

I knew I enjoyed research, and was interested in a career contributing to the medical field.

What clubs or organizations were you a part of during your time at UB?

As an undergraduate student I was a member of the UB Women’s Rugby team. During graduate school I was part of the Western New York Prosperity Fellowship, and a member of the Collaborative Learning and Integrated Mentorship in the Biosciences (CLIMB) Program.

Was there a particular faculty or staff member that stands out?

Whenever I had questions about professional development or needed advice, Hadar Borden, program director for the Western New York Prosperity Fellowship, was available to help. Her support and mentorship undoubtedly left a lasting impact on me.

What do you like most about your current job as a Senior Engineer at Qualcomm?

Working in R&D, there is a new and exciting aspect of the project to consider every day. I enjoy the challenge and feel privileged to be a part of my team working on innovative aspects of technology.

What is an example of a recent project you're working on?

Currently, I am working on noninvasive medical sensing technologies. This involves developing wearable technology for healthcare that can be used to continuously monitor physiological signals. It is an exciting project, allowing me to pursue interesting, high quality work, that will one day have a positive impact.

What lessons and skills have you learned along the way that have helped prepare you for your current role?

Participating in academic research both as an undergraduate and graduate student at UB helped prepare me for an industry career in R&D. In my current position, I recognize the importance to continually be learning and growing, and am thankful for the opportunity to do so.

What motivates you to come to work every day?

I look forward to going to work, contributing to an exciting project, discovering something new, and developing as a professional.

What advice do you have for UB students who will soon embark on their careers in a highly competitive workforce, and for those who have recently graduated?

Remain open to continuing to learn and grow, stay connected to the UB network, and when an opportunity arises be willing to take advantage of it.
