Data and communication are critical pieces of many systems. For decades, computer science theorists worked to determine the best way to recover information when it gets corrupted in ways designed to make recovery difficult. 

The tool, from the Department of AI and Society, aims to help human service agencies  respond faster during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

AI’s impact on applied and industrial fields is well documented. However, AI and computational methods are affecting human services as well. UB researchers are exploring what role these tools play in one of the most crucial societal professions: social work. 

There are problems that exist when reviewing any large datasets. A paper — co-authored by a University at Buffalo researcher and written 10 years ago — was recognized for its impact in helping to solve these problems. 

Government Technology noted UB’s new Department of AI and Society in an article about universities that have announced undergraduate programs in AI in the last two years.
