The Houston Chronicle reports on the direct threat that space debris poses to satellites and space travel. The story quotes John Crassidis, SUNY Distinguished Professor and Samuel P. Capen Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, who discussed the lack of space debris policies and international treaties to reduce space debris.

“A lot of it political. There’s just not the political will to do this right now. Everyone takes it for granted. In 20 to 30 years if we don’t do something different, low-Earth orbit could be useless,” he said.
