An article reports on a partnership between the UB School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Westminster Community Charter School to introduce students in kindergarten through grade five to science, technology, engineering and mathematics by conducting hands-on projects with the students, and quotes Liesl Folks, dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

“We thought this was a great school to have a relationship with because it’s right in the neighborhood,” she said. “We have volunteers who care passionately about science and engineering, so they’re able to speak to the STEM content. They also serve as great mentors to the elementary school kids because they’re not so old that the kids can’t imagine growing up to be like them.”
