WIVB-TV reports that UB computer scientists have been teaching Buffalo Public Schools students this summer about the basics of computer science, including how to build and program their own smartphone and quotes Oliver Kennedy, assistant professor of computer science and engineering.

"We're hoping to get them really excited about STEM... about learning about building stuff, and programming," Kennedy said.

This program is a part of the Liberty Partnerships Program, which is a NYS Department of Education dropout prevention program. It is sponsored by the National Science Foundation, and the UB School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
