Research

Aich's research group, Aich Laboratory for Environmental Nanotechnology and Sistainability (#AichLENS) focuses on the sustainable use of advanced and multifunctional nanomaterials for water quality engineering, i.e., groundwater, drinking water and wastewater treatment for removing legacy and emerging pollutants. Also, I am interested in the fundamental understanding of interactions and effects of the next generation hierarchical nanomaterials on environmental and public health.

Research topics include:

  • Safer-by-design catalytic nanohybrids for pollutant removal from water and wastewater systems
  • Fate and transport of next-generation nanomaterials through terrestrial and subsurface media
  • Interaction of complex nanohybrids with the biological wastewater treatment
  • Additive manufacturing for nano- enabled water treatment
  • Environmental and human health implications of nanohybrids and nano-enabled products such as electronic waste

Current and Recent Projects

  • Synthesis and characterization of magnetic graphene oxide-nano zero valent iron (GO-nZVI) nanohybrids using biocompatible cross-linkers for contaminant removal
  • Aggregation, sedimentation, transport, and retention of nanohybrids of reduced graphene oxide/carbon nanotubes and metal/metal oxides in aqueous solutions and saturated porous media
