UB’s Institute of Bridge Engineering (IBE) received multiple contracts from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), this week, as a member of three different teams.
“We are excited be part of these winning teams and look forward to making meaningful contributions to improving the resilience of transportation infrastructure throughout the United States,” says Andrew Whittaker, SUNY Distinguished Professor and IBE director.
The awards will be distributed based on indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contracts. UB IBE will team with Highway Technology Partners, LCC to support laboratories at the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center, a U.S. Department of Transportation facility in McLean, Virginia. UB faculty, technical staff, graduate students and specialty equipment in Ketter Hall will support Highway Technology Partners, LLC on the basis of to-be-written task orders.
Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA), will work with UB IBE to provide technical support services for construction and project management research and technology development. UB will provide faculty, technical staff, graduate students and specialty equipment as part of this 5-year, $12 million agreement. Daniel D’Angelo, who earned his BS from the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering, and is currently a member of both the UB IBE and Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering Department advisory boards is ARA’s project manager for this contract.
According to D’Angelo, UB’s status as a Tier 1 research institution was an important factor in ARA’s decision to work with the University.
“UB’s skillset aligns well with the services outlined in each of these contracts,” D’Angelo says, “its researchers, lab facilities and experience in bridge and structural engineering will help meet some of the needs of the FHWA.”
ARA and UB will team on another project to support the infrastructure research and technology program for the FHWA. This contract is a $19 million, 5-year agreement.
Fifteen IBE faculty members are associated with these awards.
