Ren named SUNY Empire Innovation Professor

Kui Ren, a professor in UB’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering, was named a SUNY Empire Innovation Scholar for his pioneering work on attacks and privacy issues in cloud computing systems, smartphone based systems and other cyber physical systems such as 3D printing systems.

Ren has received multiple awards for his contributions, including a Technical Recognition Award from the IEEE Communications and Information Security Technical Committee (CISTC), and the Exceptional Scholar Award for Sustained Achievement from University at Buffalo. He is one of the youngest researchers ever to be elevated to the rank of IEEE Fellow.

“This recognition by SUNY of Kui’s outstanding achievements and worldwide reputation in the area of cyber security is highly timely,” said Liesl Folks, dean of UB’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. “He is a renowned expert in this critically important field. We look forward to his continued intellectual leadership in the coming years, as the discipline grows in significance, impacting all our lives.”
