Chancellor's Awards for Student Excellence honors State University of New York students who have best demonstrated and been recognized for their integration of academic excellence with other aspects of their lives, which may include leadership, campus involvement, athletics, career achievement, community service or creative and performing arts.

Chams E. Mballo, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

Chams Mballo of Dakar, Senegal, graduates with a bachelor of science in mechanical and aerospace engineering. Mballo is co-founder of an SAT preparatory program that tutors, counsels and mentors war refugees and underprivileged students in Buffalo. He conducts research in the Human in the Loop System Laboratory and also worked as an undergraduate teaching assistant for the Applied Mathematics and Dynamics courses offered to engineering students.

Mackenzie R. H. Ward, Computer Science and Mathematics

Mack Ward of Clarence, N.Y., graduates with a bachelor of science in computer science and mathematics. He served as both the president and vice president of the University at Buffalo chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and has been a teaching assistant for five semesters with both the Honors College and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Ward also served as a resident adviser for the Honors College Shared Interest Housing Program for two years.
