Fact check: Image of Mars is digital rendering, not photograph

USA Today quoted Siwei Lyu, SUNY Empire Innovation professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, for a story about the ability of the Perseverance rover and the Ingenuity helicopter to capture high-resolution digital images from Mars.

"The reason that (the Mars Rover camera) has high resolution and image quality is that it is one-of-a-kind for this special task, and cost in making it is not a major issue," Lyu said.
