Fact Check: Video of Australian news interview featuring Bill Gates edited using AI

Siwei Lyu, SUNY Empire Innovation Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, was quoted in a Reuters article about a potentially doctored video featuring Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. 

Lyu highlighted specific frames of the deepfake video where, he explained, “we can observe the traces of misaligned lip shapes present in the frames, which is a telltale sign of … manipulation, with the boundary of spliced region visible near the middle of the mouths. So, this analysis suggests the video is likely to be manipulated.”
