Qiao receives outstanding achievement award from IEEE

Each technical committee of IEEE ComSoc awards one outstanding technical achievement award annually, to at most one individual per committee. In 2015, Qiao received the inaugural Distinguished Technical Achievement Award from the IEEE ComSoc Communications Switching and Routing Technical Committee.

Qiao is a SUNY Distinguished Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Since joining UB in 1993, his research interests have spanned many areas, including safety and reliability of various cyber physical systems (such as transportation systems with connected and autonomous vehicles, mobile and wireless networks, critical infrastructures involving power grid and communications networks, and cloud services), but also algorithms and protocols for the Internet of Things, including smartphone-based systems, crowdsensing and applications. He was elevated to IEEE Fellow for his pioneering research on optical burst switching for Optical Internet, and on the Integrated Cellular and Ad hoc Relaying (iCAR) for the convergence of heterogeneous wireless systems in 2010.
