Four SEAS faculty members receive CSTEP mentor awards

Four faculty members in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences were awarded the 2017 Outstanding Research Mentor Award from the University of Buffalo Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP):

  • John Crassidis - CUBRC Professor in Space Situational Awareness, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
  • Karthik Dantu - Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering
  • Ravi Ranade - Assistant Professor, Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering
  • Natesh Parashurama - Assistant Professor, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering

The award honors outstanding CSTEP research mentors who have been involved in mentoring, supervising and advising undergraduate researchers, and have impacted students’ academic and professional careers. It also recognizes faculty members who support CSTEP’s mission to increase the success of underrepresented populations pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and the licensed professions.

Outstanding mentors are awarded every five years through a nomination process completed by former research interns. The faculty members were formally presented with the award at the CSTEP 30th Anniversary Alumni Reunion and Scholarship Gala on May 12, 2017 at the Buffalo Niagara Marriot.

CSTEP is a grant-funded program sponsored by the New York State Department of Education to support talented underrepresented students pursuing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), licensed professions and health-related professions. CSTEP offers key preparation, resources and opportunities critical to student success.
