Farmer, manufacturer, UB researcher team up on AI lighting project

Buffalo Business First reports that Jinjun Xiong, SUNY Empire Innovation Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, is part of a team working to create an artificial intelligence lighting system that will offer early detection of diseased or unhealthy plants. 

“There’s potential with using AI and computer vision — not only visible lights but invisible lights, too — so that when you view the plants, you get a lot of different information, including some things that a human wouldn’t be able to see,” Xiong said.
