A story in Nature on four AI technologies that could transform everyday life, mentions technology developed by Siwei Lyu, Empire Innovation Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, that can detect deepfakes (the manipulation of images or video to replace someone’s likeness).
Lyu’s algorithms identify the subtle changes left by creators when they resize or rotate a person’s face to merge or superimpose it onto an image or video.
